Family Fun Day supports Angel Tree Australia

LOCALS enjoyed a day of art, craft and entertainment at a Family Fun Day held at the Gloucester Baptist Church on Saturday, 22 November.

Organiser Francis Wood said the purpose was to raise funds for Angel Tree Australia.

Run by Prison Fellowship Australia, Angel Tree works with churches and volunteers to purchase and deliver Christmas gifts to children with a parent in prison.

An incarcerated parent nominates their children and provides information about their age, interests and desired gifts.

Based on these suggestions, the church buys and arranges delivery with a card from the parent, to assure them that they are loved and not forgotten.

“I believe this initiative by Angel Tree strengthens family bonds which is so important over Christmas when isolated people face loneliness,” Francis said.

The Family Fun Day offered a range of activities for young and old.

“Arts and crafts were set up for families, indoors and outdoors,” she said.

“Children played on the lawn, and squeals could be heard from the jumping castle.

“It is lovely to see people in the community and our home church crew serve in this event.

“We are thankful for them and those who kindly lent us their popcorn, slushy machines and jumping castle,“ Francis added.
