ACROSS 10 days during the recent school holidays, Gloucester brothers Beau and Dane Laurie represented New South Wales Country at the Indoor Cricket National Championships held at Melbourne’s Casey Stadium.
Neither Beau nor Dane are strangers to the game of cricket, but their achievements are remarkable considering that this was their first year playing indoor cricket.
What is more outstanding is that Beau was chosen to captain the under-16 team and Dane was appointed as vice-captain of the under-14 team.
The family has a strong cricket tradition with both dad Kyran and grandad Colin being handy local players.
The boys’ journey to the nationals was marked by dedication and hard work, including intensive training camps in Inverell, Newcastle, and Kempsey, along with fundraising efforts to support their trip to Melbourne.
Beau and Dane’s mum Sandrien is understandably proud of her sons’ achievements.
“Considering the NSW Country teams were new to indoor cricket, both teams more than held their ground and had some good wins,” said Sandrien.
“They had a great time and it was a great experience for both boys.”
Both Beau and Dane are keen to try out for next year’s competition, and younger brother Mitch is also showing great promise as a cricketer of the future.
