Man charged over allegedly transporting commercial quantity of drugs

A MAN has been charged for allegedly transporting a commercial quantity of drugs on the Mid North Coast.

About 11.20am on Thursday 11 December, officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling the Pacific Highway, Nabiac, when they detected a white station wagon allegedly speeding.

Police stopped the vehicle and conducted a roadside drug and breath test on the driver – a 44-year-old man – who allegedly returned a positive result for methylamphetamine.

Following inquiries, police conducted a search of the vehicle and allegedly found 15kg of methylamphetamine, 3.5kg of heroin and a Dedicated Encrypted Criminal Communication Device (DECCD) inside a hidden compartment.

The man was arrested and taken to Forster Police Station where he was charged with two counts of “supply prohibited drug large commercial quantity”.

The 44-year-old man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 1 on Friday 12 December, where he was further refused bail, to reappear at Forster Local Court on Wednesday 25 February.
