THERE were two standout winners in a good-sized field at the Gloucester Golf Course on Saturday 10 January and it was Gai Falla and Steve Macdonald who were two standout winners playing nicely inside their handicaps the only players to do so.
The event, played in hot and steamy conditions, was an Individual Stableford and the winner in A grade was Steve MacDonald with a score of 38 points. In B grade it was Brendon Murray, 35, and in C grade John Nicolson, 36, but it was Gai Falla who was not only the top woman on the course but turned in the best net score of the day with her 39 points.
Balls were won by Gai Falla 39, Steve MacDonald 38, John Nicolson 36, Liam Wamsley and Brendon Murray 35, Nathan McInnes and Shaun Yates 34 with Brian McInnes’ 33 points earning him the last ball offered on the day.
The Nearest-to-the-Pin trophies at the 4th and 13th holes were won by Roy Crichton, 535 cm, and Mark Stone, 395 cm, in the top two grades. At the 6th and 15th holes it was Nathan McInnes, 105 cm, in A grade and Peter Markey, 229 cm, in C grade, with Sally Higgins, 311 cm, the closest among the women players.
There was a full house for the long drives at the 8th and 17th holes with John Cornelius, Brian Osborne, John Nicolson, and Dale Rabbett longest off the tee and still on the fairway.
The winner of the Super Sevens for the week ending Friday 9 January was Paul Thibault with a very handy 20 points three ahead of the leading ball winner Graeme Marsh 17. He was followed, in a relatively small field by Jim Dunn and Mark Garner both scoring 14 points both picking up balls for their trouble.
On Saturday 17 January, the Gloucester Golfers are due to play an Individual Stableford sponsored by Roundabout Inn. The following Saturday Graeme Marsh and D&B Plumbing sponsor a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford.
