For the first Saturday after Christmas Day, 27 December, produced a good sized field playing in cool conditions after the late December heat wave all of which provided a fine background for Jackson Melton to play five points inside handicap and the same count ahead of the field.
The event was an Individual Stableford sponsored by the Gloucester Golf Club’s Veteran Golfers. The best score across the field with 41 points was that of Jackson Melton 41, Peter McIntyre and Nathan McInnes picked up the next two places with 36 points separated from each other and the field by multiple count backs. Indeed, Nathan McInnes’ 36 was the best in A grade while Trevor Sharp, 36, was the top B grade player all of whom had to stand aside for c grade player Jackson Melton with his 41 points.
Balls were won by Jackson Melton 41, Peter McIntyre, Nathan McInnes, Trevor sharp, Brendon Murray, Mark Stone and John Herd, all scoring 36 points with Phil Bowden, 35 picking up the last trophy ball.
Only A grade player Chris Murray could make it to the green at the 4th and 13th holes to win the Nearest-to-the-Pin trophy there finishing 463 cm from the hole. It was a full house at the shorter 6th and 15th holes where Derek Melton 363 cm, Ryan Yates 258 cm and Lawson Melton 270 cm represented all three grades respectively.
The long drive trophies at the 8th and 17th holes were won by Chris Murray, Ryan Yates, Hayden Cornall and Dale Rabbett.
The Super Sevens for the week ending Friday 26 December was won by Chris Steele 16 with Brian Osborne, 14, winning the only ball on offer by a countback.
On Saturday 3 January the Gloucester Golf Club played the January Monthly Medal an Individual Stroke event sponsored by the Arkwood family. This coming Saturday there will be an Individual Stableford. [Best to take this out if you run the story?
