AFTER the heavy rain of the previous week rendered the course unplayable for a short while, the Gloucester Golf Ladies were happy to get out last Wednesday, 3 June, to play their third Monthly Medal for the year. The bright sunshine made it a great day for play, but the heavy conditions were reflected in the scores, with none of the golfers managing to play to their handicap.
The event was an Individual Stableford and the winner in Division 1 was Karen Howarth, 31 points. Margaret Dunn was the Division 2 winner and her 33 points also won her the Monthly Medal for the best score across the field. The two winners won prizes generously sponsored by Lorna Taylor, who has not played with the ladies for several years but has continued to support them by sponsoring an event each year.
Balls were won by a trio on 30 points each, Julie Paterson, Carolyn Davies and Susie Higgins. Gai Falla’s 28 earned her the final ball on offer.
The Nearest-to-the-Pin prize on the 4th and 13th holes was won by Karen Howarth, with Dale Rabbett getting the prize for her shot on the 6th and 15th holes.
This Wednesday, 10 June, sees the first round of the Women’s Championship with the second and third rounds to follow on 17 and 24 June.
