THE number joining the festivities for Gloucester’s first Christmas exceeded all expectations.
From 9am on Saturday 11 July, the main street was packed with both locals and visitors, who were able to enjoy music from the buskers, make a purchase from many of the stalls, or take a leisurely ride on a horse and cart.
The crowd were treated to a parade of new and antique cars and tractors, and Santa took a break from his toy making to come and greet the many children who dressed up for the occasion.
A highlight for the children was a hunt for elves hiding in the local shops.
One of the organisers, Evette from Uptown Country, was delighted at the turnout.
“It is very busy and we are very pleased with the result, and the whole community has turned out,” said Evette.
“It’s been absolutely amazing.
“Everybody is loving the elf on the shelf hunt.”
Shelley from The Common was over the moon about the size of the crowds and how busy she was.
“It’s been a great success and should be repeated again next year,” said Shelley.
One of the other organisers, Ana from Forest of Play, was also very happy with the day.
“The town is very vibrant and everyone is happy and excited,” said Ana.
“The community has really embraced it.”
Eamon and his family came to Gloucester from Sydney for the weekend.
“This event is super cool,” said Eamon.
“It’s so good to see the town really come alive.
“It’s particularly great for our kids, and they are now enjoying the elf on the shelf hunt.”
