Big Scores in Christmas Golf

Paul Blanch, Liam Wamsley, Nathan McInnes.

THE annual Loveys IGA Christmas Cheer at the Gloucester Course always signals Christmas is nigh and this year was no exception with Liam Walmsley leading the way on Saturday 20 December.

The event, played in worm to hot conditions, was an Individual Stableford attracting a good-sized crowd of players and some top scores with the first six players well inside their handicap.

The winner was Liam Wamsley with a monster 43 points. He was followed by Andrew Badham, 42, in second place, Nathan McInnes, 41, third, Paul Blanch, 39, fourth, Dennis Wamsley 39, fifth, and Greg McLeod from Taree Golf Club, 39, sixth. The Christmas Cheer component of the day saw hams presented to the top half of the field and a golf ball to each of the remaining players.

The Eagle’s Nest jackpot at the 17th was won by Paul Blanch and the Nearest-to-the-Pin at the 4th and 13th holes was won by Steve Williams, Matt Peters and Andrew Badham in the three grades. At the shorter 6th and 15th holes it was Steve Williams, again, Mark Stone and Jeff Graham who finished closest to the flagstick off the tee.

The long drive at the 8th and 17th holes was won Nathan McInnes in A grade, Peter Bignell in B grade and Blake Murray in C grade.

The winner of the Super Sevens for the week concluding Friday 19 December was Jim Dunn with a huge 21 points. Ball winners were Bill Murray, Dave Saunders and Mark Stone 17, and Tom Markey and Wayne Maddalena 16 after a count back.

On Saturday 27 December the Gloucester Golf Club played a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford and this coming Saturday, 3 January, there is the opening Monthly Medal for 2026, an Individual Stroke event sponsored by the Arkwood family.
