Bowdens triumph in men’s tennis

A LATE-season surge enabled Team Bowden – comprising Tom Maggs, Phil Bowden, Aaron Kelly and Andrew Laurie – to claim the honours in the recently completed men’s tennis competition.

Sitting third for much of the competition, Bowdens only scraped into the final with a convincing last-round win over Team Gazecki enough to propel them into second place over a tiring Team Andrews.

Timing their run to perfection, the following week Bowdens played their best tennis of the season to overpower the Nathan McInnes-led minor premiers in the final to earn a well-deserved win.

Forgoing the traditional finals-night steak, sausages and bush oysters BBQ, after the tennis players feasted on home made sushi, quiches and massaman curry – how times have changed!

The next men’s (Tuesdays) and mixed (Thursdays) competitions will start at the end of July. New players are always welcome. See the Gloucester tennis website for contact details.
