GLOUCESTER Masonic Lodge ran a Trivia Night on Saturday, 16 May to raise funds for the Bucketts Way Neighbourhood Group’s new kitchen.
The Neighbourhood Group operates the Gloucester Meals on Wheels program and has long needed a dedicated kitchen to better support its efforts.
“Meals on Wheels is a vital program, providing both food and social connection to people in our community,” said Ian Shaw, Director of Ceremonies at Gloucester Lodge.
Shaw was also responsible for creating the trivia questions.
“I really enjoyed putting the questions together,” he remarked.
“It was a varied set of questions from sport to arts and music; so everyone had a chance to answer something.”
The event was a tremendous success, raising over $16,000.
“Much of the funds came from auction items generously donated by local businesses,” said Shaw.
“I’d also like to thank Peter Markey for serving as auctioneer on the night.”
District 44 Charities, the fundraising arm of the Masonic Lodges in the Manning Valley, donated $5,000, which was matched by Masonicare, the charitable arm of the Grand Lodge of NSW and the ACT.
“Gloucester is a wonderful community, and people are always willing to support meaningful causes.
“You never know when you might need the support of Meals on Wheels yourself,” Shaw explained.
