DUNGOG shire residents have been invited to join a carriage-load of big-hearted Hunter Valley train lovers travelling to the town on 8 November to raise funds for the Childhood Dementia Initiative (CDI).
Already 32 of the 80 seats on an historic, Newcastle-based 620 class Rail Motor have been sold.
The rail veteran will depart Broadmeadow in the morning, picking up at Thornton and Maitland, before arriving at Dungog around noon.
The fundraiser’s organiser, Lance Nelson is asking locals to pay $25 to come along to fill James Theatre to watch the great Aussie movie, The Castle, and enjoy a cuppa and light refreshments.
He became aware of Childhood Dementia last September while speaking with a couple from Leeton, whose daughter has the disease.
“They are going through a terrible time – my heart went out to them,” Mr Nelson said.
“Of course, other families are affected too, and I want to support them by raising awareness and funding research.”
“James Theatre holds 220 people, so I’m hoping the people of the Dungog district will join the train’s passengers to fill the theatre.”
He put together the fundraiser with the support of James Theatre, the Rail Motor Society Paterson, and the Freemasons Lodge of New Lambton.
