Scone Road set to reopen on 17 December

MIDCOAST Council has announced that Scone Road is set to reopen on Wednesday, 17 December after undergoing significant repairs.

A number of landslips occurred on Scone Road during the May 2025 flood event, the most significant about 2.5km from Geales Bridge.

Due to safety concerns it was deemed necessary to close Scone Road in both directions.

According to Council, the May 2025 flood resulted in over 28,000 defects to the MidCoast road network, with the most significant slip being on the Scone Road.

“Although the road will reopen prior to Christmas, there are other slips along Scone Road which still require permanent restoration,” Council said in statement.

“There will be changed traffic conditions at these sites, so it’s important to drive to the conditions and follow warning signs.”

Council has stated it is progressing funding applications and design work for permanent reconstruction works at these other slip locations.

“These further works will be undertaken in 2026, depending on funding approval and the weather.

“An update will be provided prior to the next phase of works.”

The council has warned road users that roadwork schedules are always subject to change due to weather and other factors, so to check MidCoast Council’s Road Hub or Live Traffic for updates when planning a trip.
