WILD Life, an exhibition by Newcastle artist Ebony Bennett, will be on display at the Gloucester Gallery from 3 to 28 December.
Ebony said she is looking forward to returning to Gloucester Gallery, following her previous experience.
“I love presenting my work in regional galleries, and I had a wonderful experience at Gloucester Gallery during a previous exhibition.”
Drawing and painting have been integral to Ebony’s life for as long as she can remember.
“It all started with a natural love for drawing as a small child, which continued through constant doodling in my schoolbooks and decorating their borders and title pages.
“So, I’ve always considered myself an artist.
“However, it wasn’t until 2006 when I officially registered my business name that I used the title ‘artist’.”
One aspect of painting that Ebony particularly enjoys is the process of creating a piece of art.
“I love being able to recreate an image or feeling from my mind.
“The thrill of transforming mere shapes and colours into something recognisable with just a brushstroke is exhilarating.”
Wild Life highlights Ebony’s appreciation of nature, featuring Australian birdlife and environments, as well as exotic animal species.
“Nature is incredibly diverse in colour and texture, and each person’s observation and memory of it are unique,” said Ebony.
This multifariousness allows her to experiment with various styles and forms.
“For some artworks, I opt for a realistic style, staying true to nature as closely as possible.
“For others, I adopt a looser approach, letting the paint settle as it may and allowing brushstrokes to suggest texture and form.
“My style shifts with each painting or subject, influenced by my mood, intentions, the size of the artwork, or the subject matter.”
Ebony hopes visitors to the Gloucester Gallery will find a sense of peace and happiness in her work.
“Nature makes me happy; colour makes me happy.
“In every piece I create, I strive to move at least one person, whether it’s through the species I’ve chosen, the mood I’ve captured, the colour combinations, or by triggering a fond memory of a place or time.”
Wild Life will be on display, with Ebony painting live in the gallery on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 December.
The Gloucester Gallery is open from 10 am to 2 pm Tuesday to Sunday.
