MIDCOAST Libraries has expanded its free home delivery library service to include the Gloucester area.
“If you can’t make it to the library, we’ll bring the library to you” is the expressed aim of the service.
“There are several reasons why people are unable to get to the library,” Ellen Matheson, Home Library Officer, told NOTA.
“It might be because of their age, illness or disability.
“It might be because of an ongoing issue or only a temporary one.
“If you are recovering from an operation or have a young baby, you may only need the service for a short time.”
The service aims to bring library resources to many more people and to assist in keeping the Gloucester community connected.
“The service is possible thanks to the support of a wonderful group of volunteers who conduct the delivery and return of items,” Gloucester librarian Catherine Devereaux informed NOTA.
To join the service, members can fill out a form at the Gloucester library or sign up on the MidCoast Libraries website.
Participants can order books (in large or standard print), DVDs, magazines, jigsaw puzzles and audio books online.
Alternatively they can indicate the subjects that are of the greatest interest to them and the librarian will provide members with a selection.
There are also books available in other languages.
Catherine noted that participants can still make selections in the library and have them home delivered.
For library members seeking to entertain children throughout January, MidCoast Libraries offer a variety of activities as part of their Summer Holiday Program.
Bookings can be made online or by scanning the QR code at the library to reserve a place.
