IT WAS Chris Steele’s day in the sun on Tuesday 23 December when he won the Gloucester Veteran Golfers event by a country mile in sweltering conditions.
The event was an Individual Stableford sponsored by Max Shepherd. It was also a novelty event with players only able to use three clubs and a putter instead of the maximum fourteen clubs allowed in the Rules. None of which prevented Chris Steele turning in a scorecard showing 41 points five points ahead of a clutch of players on 36.
Runner up based on a count back was Anne Wand with 36 points. Ball winners were Jackson Melton and Derek Melton 36, Trevor Sharp 33, Sally Higgins, 32 and Carolyn Davies 31 CB.
The Nearest-to-the-Pin trophies at the 4th and 13th holes were won by Carolyn Davies and Chris Steele with Mark Stone doing the honours at the 6th and 15th holes.
On Tuesday 30 December the Gloucester veteran Golfers played an Individual Stableford and this coming week Tuesday 6 January there is another Individual Stableford.
