Sharp Wins January Golf Medal

IT WAS a cloudy yet warm day at the Gloucester Golf Club on Saturday 3 January for the first Medal round of the year, won by Trevor Sharp.

The event was an Individual Stroke sponsored by Arkwood Organic Recycling with the Monthly Medal going to the best net score across the field.

The Monthly Medal was won on a count back by Trevor Sharp with a net score of 69. Steve Burns turned in the top net score in A grade with Paul Blanch the best gross score with a par round of 72. In B grade Trevor Sharp, 69, won the net trophy along with his Medal and Roy Crichton’s 83 was the best gross score in the grade. Honours were also shared in C grade with Paul Coote’s 70 the top net score and Rod Hills, visiting from Taree, had the best gross score in the grade with 92.

Balls were won by Trevor Sharp and Roy Crichton 69, Paul Coote and Rod Hills 70, Steve Burns and Brendon Murray 71 with the last three balls to Paul Blanch, Brian Osborne and Peter Markey 72.

The Nearest-to-the-Pin trophies at the 4th and 13th holes were won in the three grades by Paul Blanch, 600 cm, Trevor Sharp, 227 cm, and Paul Coote, 680 cm in the three grades. Only two grades were represented at the shorter 6th and 15th holes: Steve MacDonald, 363cm, in A grade and Hayden Cornall, 696 cm, in C grade.

The long drives at the 8th and 17th holes were won by Chris Murray, Trevor Sharp and Steve Benson in the three men’s grades with Dale Rabbett the longest off the tee and still on the fairway among the women players.

The winner of the Super Sevens for the week ending Friday 2 January was Will Bosma with a healthy 21 points. Balls were won by Derek Wand 19, Ian Maggs 17, Wayne Maddalena and Max Shepherd 16, and Chris Steele, 14, on a count back.

On Saturday next, 10 January, the Gloucester Golf Club will be running an Individual Stableford. The following Saturday Roundabout Inn will sponsor another Individual Stableford.
