Crossing at Tiri opens ahead of schedule

THE temporary river crossing at Tiri has opened ahead of schedule.

Local traffic was allowed through on Saturday 21 March, two months earlier than planned.

A 5-tonne load limit applies, which means trucks and larger vehicles will continue using alternative routes via Gloucester and Wingham.

Three of the six spans of the Tiri Bridge were destroyed in the extreme floods of May 2025.

The road had been closed since then.

“The earlier than expected opening is thanks to a prompt delivery of materials,” said Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services Rob Scott.

“[This] allowed our team to commence work on the temporary crossing, using what was left of the damaged bridge to shorten the construction timeline.

“It’s a great outcome for the local community, but this isn’t the end of our work in the Tiri area.”

Technical studies and design work are now underway for the bridge’s permanent replacement.

“We know the load limit on the temporary crossing affects larger vehicles navigating the area.

“Our aim is to begin construction on the permanent replacement bridge next year.”

Funding for the temporary crossing was provided by the NSW Reconstruction Authority.

Meanwhile, roadworks are underway on The Bucketts Way at Mograni.

Crews are rehabilitating a section near Mograni Creek Road and Bundook Road.

Work should be completed by early June, weather permitting.

During work hours, the road will be reduced to one lane under traffic control.
