THE Turner Freeman Gloucester Scorpions Under 14s have secured their first three points of the season, defeating Great Lakes Vikings 6–3 at Boronia Park last Saturday.
The Scorps started strongly, winning the midfield battle early and controlling the tempo.
Despite dominating possession, they were repeatedly denied in the final third before eventually breaking through.
First-half goals from Peter Clinch, Eli Soupidis and Brock Gruisinga gave Gloucester a deserved lead heading into the break.
The Vikings struggled to build momentum until midway through the second half, when a long-range strike opened their account.
Gloucester was then forced to defend deeper and conceded twice more as the pressure mounted.
Strong defensive efforts from Max Dellsperger and Ewan Sheely proved crucial in steadying the side during this period.
Shifting to a counter-attacking approach, the Scorps regained control of the game.
Eli Soupidis and River Cowley capitalised on the space, helping Gloucester add three more goals to seal an impressive 6–3 victory.
A special mention to newcomers Dean Freeman, Cooper Wenham, Matthew Ruyter, Brock Gruisinga and Lachlan Maggs, who all slotted into their roles seamlessly.
The Scorpions return home next Saturday, 9 May, with a 9:00am kick-off.
Come down and support the team.
Up the Scorps!
