IT WAS perfect weather and the course in great condition for the final round of the Gloucester Veterans Championships on Tuesday 16 June with Ken Kelly turning in another steady round to win the Veterans Championship for 2026.
The event was the final Individual Stroke of the three-round championship and was sponsored by Anne and Derek Wand. The day’s winner was Col Clark with a net score of 74. Runner up was Arthur Poynting, 75, and balls were won by Derek Wand and Peter Sate 77, with the final raft of balls to players with a 78: Ken Kelly, Ele Fraser, Chris Steele, Gai Falla and Anne Wand.
The Nearest-to-the-Pin at the 4th and 13th holes was won by Derek Wand and Mark Stione did the job at the 6th and 15th holes.
Veteran Golf Championships for 2026 was won by Ken Kelly with a gross score of 271. The B grade Champion is Derek Wand 302 and C grade Champion Peter Buettel 357; the Women’s Champion is Carolyn Davies 275. The best three-round net scores of the championships were turned in by Trevor Sharp, 225 and Gai Falla, 237.
Play is due to return to a somewhat less stressful form of the game on Tuesday 23 June with an Individual Stableford sponsored by Arthur Poynting. Next Tuesday, 30 June, there will be another Individual Stableford sponsored by Paul Griffiths.
