Andrews Leads Golf Champs

IT WAS the first round of the Men’s Championships at Gloucester Golf Club on Saturday 2 May and all players found the going hard although that did not stop Jamie Andrews from turning in a round that left him six strokes clear of the field.

The event was an Individual Stroke with the top net score of the day turned in by Peter Markey whose net 74 earned him the Monthly Medal for May. His net score on the day flowed from his gross score of 98 giving him the two wins in C grade as well as the lead in the C grade championship.

In A grade it was Jamie Andrews’ net 75 after a gross score of 77 that gave him the two wins in the grade and the lead in the overall club championship. In B grade it was Geoff Reynolds whose net 75 and gross 93 earned him the two wins in his grade. Balls were won by Peter Markey 74 Jamie Andrews and Geoff Reynolds 75; Paul Garland 76 and Brendon Murray, Mitch Andrews, Ryan Yates and Dave Mann 77.

The Nearest -to-the-Pin trophies at the 4th and 13th holes were won by Jamie Andrews in A grade and John Cornelius in B grade. It was a full house at the shorter 6th and 15th holes with Jamie Andrews on target to pick up a double for the day in A grade with Brian Osborne in B grade and Will Bosma in C grade closest to the hole off the tee.

The long drive trophies at the 8th and 17th holes were won in the three grades by Jamie Andrews, John Cornelius and Paul Garland.

The Super Sevens for the week ending Friday 1 M ay was won by Craig McLeod with 20 Stableford points. Balls were won by Steve Williams 18, Dave Mann, Ken Kelly and Arthur Poynting 16, and by Wayne Maddalena and Will Bosma, 15, on a countback.

This coming Saturday the Gloucester Club will host the third and final round of the Men’s Club Championships with another Individual Stroke event. The following Saturday Gloucester Outdoor Solutions will sponsor a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford.
