ON SATURDAY 21 March the Gloucester Golf Club celebrated Derros Day, an annual event sponsored by an anonymous group of golfers who celebrate the occasion in absentia.
The day itself was a fine Autumn day with good golfing conditions for a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford with the winning pair, local Chris Steele and visitor Robyn Lunn from Belmont, scoring 45 points.
They were followed by runners up. Dave Saunders and Brendon Murray just a single point behind on 44.
Balls were won by Chris Steele and Robyn Lunn 45, Brendon Murray and Dave Saunders 44, Paul Coote and Brian Osborne 43, Nathan McInnes and Brian McInnes 43, and Harrison Jones and Nathan Webber 42.
The top individual scores were turned in by Brian Osborne 41, and John Nicolson 37. And speaking of individual scores Paul Blanch had but three strokes on the par-5 10th hole for an Eagle Nest Trophy; he hit a driver, a 5-wood and sunk a 110 cm putt.
The winner of the Super Sevens in a small rain threatened field for the week ending Friday 20 March was Wayne Maddalena on a count back from the leading ball winner Wayne Maddalena both scoring 15 points.
Bill Murray and Dave Mann also won balls with their 14 points apiece.
This coming Saturday 28 March the Gloucester Golf Club will be playing a Four Person Ambrose as a celebration of the role Tom Blundell played in the life of the club.
The following Saturday there will be the April Monthly Medal, an Individual Stroke event sponsored by Arkwood Organic Recycling.
