LAST Thursday evening the Gloucester Veteran Golfers staged a special Night Golf event with 28 players turning out for some fascinating golfing experiences.
The course was especially lit for the occasion and all golf balls used glowed in the dark all of which meant that the balls were easily found. The evening was cool enough though judged by all to be “playable”.
The event played was an eight-hole Ambrose with seven teams of four intrepid players vying for club house honours post-match.
The top prize was won by a team of Peter Markey, Liane Markey, Phil Bowden and Ken Kelly with a score of 23½ points. In second place, just a touch back, was Mark Stone, Tony Berecry, Derek Wand and Matt Peters 25 3/8.
In third place was Denver Webb, Ian Maggs, Brian Osborne and Tony Burnet with a score of 27½ points.
After the fun and games on the course there was a dinner catered for by the Gloucester Veteran Ladies under the careful eye of Margaret Dunn, a smorgasbord of hot crockpot dishes and casseroles followed by some homemade slices.
There were thumbs up all round and special thanks were recorded to Tony Burnet, Jim Dunn and Trevor Sharp and the team of veteran golfers who set up the course with the lighting.
