Gloucester Scorpions Local Competition

DESPITE a little winter rain, spirits remained high at the Gloucester Soccer Complex on Saturday as the Gloucester Scorpions celebrated World Cup Day – Australia vs USA alongside the club’s annual Sponsors Day.

Players, families and supporters embraced the World Cup theme, with every local competition team proudly representing either Australia or the USA. The friendly rivalry created a fantastic atmosphere throughout the morning, with team victories contributing towards the overall World Cup result. After a morning of exciting matches, Australia emerged victorious, claiming Gloucester’s inaugural World Cup Day title.

The Accommodation Gloucester Mini Roos competition saw Cam Hughes Carpentry and NJL 1on1 Constructions enjoy another fun-filled morning developing their ball skills before taking to the field for their weekly game. It continues to be wonderful to see the confidence, teamwork and enjoyment of our youngest Scorpions grow each week.

In the LMD Building Services Division 3 competition, CalCo Surveyors faced Andrew Johnson Carpentry, while Level Electrical took on Australia Post Gloucester. Across both matches, players demonstrated growing confidence, improved positioning and excellent teamwork. The development of all Division 3 players continues to impress coaches and spectators alike.

The Loveys IGA Gloucester Division 2 competition produced one of the closest contests of the day, with Ollies Service Centre securing a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Avon Valley Meats. It was an evenly contested match with every player contributing and plenty of exciting passages of play.

The second Division 2 fixture between Gloucester Community Shop and Millard Ag was another entertaining encounter. Millard Ag claimed a 3–1 victory, however both teams displayed excellent sportsmanship, determination and enthusiasm from the opening whistle through to full-time.

The feature match in the Gloss-Ter Carwash Division 1 competition certainly lived up to expectations. Gloucester Bowling Club and Betta Gloucester produced a thrilling display of attacking soccer that kept spectators entertained from start to finish. Gloucester Bowling Club came away with an exciting 4–3 victory, with both teams deserving congratulations for an outstanding game played in great spirit.

The Turner Freeman Mixed Seniors Competition continues to gain momentum and has quickly become a popular addition to Saturday mornings. Open to adults of all ages and abilities, the competition offers a fun, social and inclusive opportunity to enjoy the game, with matches kicking off each Saturday at 11:30am.

The club also took the opportunity to recognise the incredible businesses that support local soccer during its annual Sponsors Day. From Major Sponsor Turner Freeman Lawyers through to the club’s Corporate, Divisional and Team Sponsors, their ongoing generosity enables hundreds of local players to enjoy the game each week. Gloucester Scorpions sincerely thank every sponsor for their commitment to community sport.

A huge thank you also goes to the many volunteers, coaches, managers, referees and families whose dedication makes local soccer possible every week. Community sport simply would not happen without the countless hours they contribute behind the scenes.

As the season moves beyond the halfway mark, the enthusiasm around Gloucester Soccer Club continues to grow. The standard of play continues to improve across all age groups, friendships are flourishing, and the future looks incredibly bright for the Scorpions.
