Gloucester wins Silver in NSW Top Tourism Town Awards

GLOUCESTER has been recognised as an outstanding tourist destination.

On 27 May, NSW Tourism Association announced the winners of the 2026 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards and Gloucester was awarded Silver in the small tourism town category.

The small town category is for towns with a population of between 1,500 and 5,000.

The 2026 awards were announced at the Local Government NSW Destination and Visitor Economy Conference in Maitland.

According to Destination NSW, the awards are designed to celebrate the outstanding regional destinations across NSW that deliver exceptional visitor experiences, showcase strong community pride and continue to inspire travellers to explore more of the state.

“These awards shine a spotlight on the amazing towns and communities that make regional NSW so memorable,” said NSW Tourism Association CEO Natalie Godward.

“Every finalist and winner should be incredibly proud of the way they welcome visitors and showcase the best of their region.

“There’s never been a better time to get out, hit the road, support local businesses and discover the incredible experiences right across our state.”

Owner and operator of the Steps Barrington Campground Brian Kilby thought the award was well deserved.

“As a local tourist operator, I am delighted with this result, and I congratulate all involved in achieving the fabulous outcome,” said Mr Kilby.

“Tourism now plays a vital role in Gloucester’s economy and has great opportunities for further growth.”

Shelley Faull, owner of The Common coffee shop where tourists often gather, also thought that Gloucester was a worthy recipient of the award.

“Tourism plays a vital role in the success of our busy cafe and the wider local community,” she said.

“Visitors travelling through our region not only support small businesses like ours, but also help create a vibrant atmosphere that keeps our town thriving year-round.

“Receiving this Silver Award is incredibly meaningful and well deserved.”

MidCoast Mayor Claire Pontin also offered her congratulations to Gloucester and to all involved.

“Gloucester is a great tourism destination with so much to offer, and it was fabulous news to hear that it was awarded Silver at the Top Tourism Town Awards.”
