GLOUCESTER Gallery opens its 2026 exhibition season with a show by Sydney-based mother-and-son artists Andrea Noice and Marley Colbourne.

The exhibition marks the pairs’ second collaborative show at the gallery.

Andrea said returning to the gallery was an easy choice.

“The space is light and generous.

“Charlie, GACCI’s administrator (Gloucester Arts and Cultural Council Incorporated), is great to work with, and I love Gloucester,” she said.

Andrea and Marley both credit their families as influences on their artistic journey.

“My mum has been a great influence on me as she was a teacher, majoring in art and ceramics, so we always had creative activities at home,” Andrea told News Of The Area.

Marley noted that his grandmother, who has written and illustrated books throughout her life, was his first influence, but also explained that his mother encouraged his creativity and is a constant mentor.

“My wife and son also give me plenty of feedback, and I’m inspired by their way of seeing the world,” Marley noted.

Both Andrea and Marley have enjoyed working on their second combined exhibition.

“It’s great to encourage each other and spend time together learning about different art processes and the motivational aspects of our work,” Andrea said.

“We wanted to collaborate, to share ideas, critique each other’s work, and spend time dedicated to our creative practice.

“It has helped us grow as artists and as a family,” Marley explained.

When discussing their artistic processes, Marley said his inspiration comes from his writing and travels.

“I illustrate a character that journeys through a semi-fictitious landscape based on my travels.

“At the moment, I’m inspired by artists I met in Côte d’Ivoire and neolithic pottery from the British Isles.”

Andrea added that the process of creating art, rather than the outcome, is what she loves most about her practice, though nature remains a strong inspiration.

“The changing nature of bodies of water and the sky particularly inspires me.”

Marley is a multidisciplinary artist, while Andrea works primarily with oils and acrylics on canvas.

The exhibition, titled “Reflections,” showcases each artist’s unique interpretation of the concept.

Andrea mentioned that creating the work for this exhibition has been liberating, and she hopes that those who come to the Gloucester Gallery will get as much enjoyment from the works as she has in creating them.

Marley hopes visitors to the gallery take the time to connect with parts of the work that resonate with them and to be inspired to create their own.

“Reflections” runs at Gloucester Gallery until 25 January.
