Vegetarian delights to tempt your tastebuds this Christmas

KAREN Bell is continuously learning just how delicious healthy food choices can be.

“I’m really inspired by the rainbow colours of vegetarian food,” Karen said at the quarterly cooking demonstration at the Gloucester Seventh Day Adventist church on Sunday afternoon, 23 November.

The table was set beautifully for Christmas without a turkey, and Karen couldn’t help but feel the festive mood.

“It feels like Christmas!” exclaimed in delight as she sat down to sample the food.

Beryl Landers, the coordinator for Ladies’ Time Out gatherings at the church, demonstrated a meatless meatloaf served with mushroom sauce.

“I’m choosing to make potato balls as well because it’s a favourite in our gatherings and simple to make,” she said.

Next on the menu was a colourful festive salad made from spinach, pomegranate seeds, chopped walnuts and feta.

Not to be missed was Julie Ashe’s dessert; a chocolate ripple log made in the shape of a wreath.

Chocolate ripple biscuits were coated in whipped cream and finished with flaked chocolate, blueberries, raspberries and dribbles of berry sauce.
It was set in the fridge before serving, and received excellent reviews from meeting attendees.

Beryl announced that a special service will be held at the Seventh Day Adventist church at 10am on Saturday, 20 December followed by a festive lunch, to which everyone is invited.
