THE 2026 Dungog Rodeo will feature a Masters Bull Ride, with a group of past champions accepting invitations to compete.
$3000 in prize money will be on offer in the Masters event.
Some of the 11 renowned riders competing in the feature event are ex-Australian Champion Ben Jones and Professional Bull Riders world finalists Jason O’Hearn and Jared Farley.
Event spokesperson Peter Hudson said the bulls were carefully selected for the Masters event.
“[They are] just the right bulls, perfect for the job,” he said.
Set for Saturday, 4 April at the Dungog Showground, the 2026 Dungog Rodeo is expected to be even bigger and better than last year’s.
Opening at the earlier time of 8am, the committee hopes a larger crowd will take advantage of the extended hours.
Last year’s Rodeo attracted around 6000 locals and visitors.
The 2025 event drew around 450 competitor entries, a number expected to rise next weekend.
Competitions include saddle broncs, bareback, rope and tie, ladies barrel racing, novice and junior events.
The main events boast substantial prize money, with $5000 offered for the Open Bull Ride.
Award-winning singer-songwriter Travis Collins will play after the rodeo events, and a short set earlier in the evening.
The Dungog CWA, pony club and junior rugby club will be serving breakfast and a BBQ from 8am.
The local fire brigade, soccer and cricket clubs will look after parking, the gate and the bar, respectively.
These local groups and the Dungog Palliative Care Volunteers will all benefit from the proceeds of the event.
A charity event run by local people, the Rodeo donates around $40,000- $50 000 each year to local sporting and community groups.
With fuel shortages and prices hitting hard across the state, running expenses for the Rodeo are also expected to increase, with rising fuel costs particularly affecting stock contractors who truck their animals to the event.
