Old tin shed to again host Australia’s finest classical musicians

EACH year some of Australia’s most outstanding classical musicians make the journey up the Bucketts Way to Gloucester and beyond to Rookhurst, before heading down a dirt track to perform in a near-century-old tin farm shed.

It’s been happening since the Craven Creek Music Festival first kicked off in 2013, each year playing to a packed house.

This year the festival will be held on the weekend of 12 and 13 September and will involve two morning and two afternoon concerts.

Musicians for this year include the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s principal cellist Timo-Veikko Valve, Melbourne-based piano virtuoso Aura Go and Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Associate Concertmaster Harry Bennetts.

Bennetts has been highly praised for his 2025 performance of Beethoven’s ‘Violin Concerto’.

“The programmes for the concerts this year feature a Beethoven feast on both Saturday and Sunday mornings climaxing with his ‘Ghost’ trio for piano, violin and cello,” said organiser Greg Lindsay

“The afternoon concerts will feature some not-often-heard music along with Schubert’s masterful ‘Trout Quintet’ for piano, violin, cello, viola and double bass – a work which contains one of the best-known melodies in all of classical music.

“Gloucester residents and many more from further away gather for this jewel of great music and often enjoy a picnic by the beautiful Craven Creek.

“But it’s the music that makes them wait eagerly for this wonderful weekend,”
