WHEN young Gloucester Rotarian Brodie Taylor heard a talk by visiting Rotarian Ken Hall from Tamworth on polio eradication, his heart stirred.
He had some knowledge of polio and hearing that it is almost being eradicated was exciting.
The Gloucester High School Year 12 student and Captain immediately knew that he wanted to be part of teams to raise money for more research into it, to end polio.
Cheered on and supported by Rotarians from Wingham, Taree on Manning, Taree, and the Lower Mid-Coast, Brody and his mates Dylan Crossley, Troy McBride and Phineas Hester Brody had their heads shaved at the Krambach Pub on the 25th of November.
Brodie said, “Our goal was to raise $5,000 and we are overwhelmed by the generosity of family, fellow Rotarians, and the community as we raised over $5,500.
“Gloucester Rotary and Wingham Rotary each contributed $1,000 toward this inspiring effort.”
His team thanks Killer Graffix which donated stickers to promote the event.
“It has been a lot of work, but just to know that we are very close to having polio eradicated, is worth the effort,” he admitted.
But the challenge isn’t quite over.
For every $10 raised, they have committed to running one kilometre.
They’ve done over 20km and, over the summer break – rain or shine – will complete every last kilometre, keeping to their promise.
Gloucester Rotary Club President commented, “We’re incredibly proud of these four young men; events like these that truly show the power of collaboration across our Rotary family.
“To every friend, family member, community supporter, and Rotarian who donated, encouraged, and cheered these young men on — thank you.
“This achievement belongs to all of you! Congratulations to these inspiring young men for reaching their goal and continuing to lead with heart, grit, and community spirit.”
