Wingham Win Vets Golf Shield

THIS last Tuesday, 14 April, saw the Gloucester Veteran Golfers hosting the second round of the Glowing Shield, only to see the Wingham Veteran Golfers take the trophy home with them.

The Glowing Shield is awarded each year to the aggregate home-and-away scores turned in by the two teams of Veteran Golfers from Wingham and Gloucester.

Despite Gloucester finishing ahead of Wingham, 364 to 335, on Tuesday, it was Wingham’s prior home win of 342 to 226 that gave the win to Wingham with an aggregate 677 to the home side’s 630.

The event on the day was an Individual Stableford with the leading individual Gloucester score was achieved by Anne Wand whose 39 points was but a count back ahead of runner up Carolyn Davies, 39. For the Wingham golfers, Ted Bowen 38 was best with runner up, after a count back, Craig Hamilton, 36.

Balls were won by Trevor Sharp and Col Clark 37, Sally Higgins, Hayden Moller and Will Bosma 36, Blake Moller, Arthur Poynting, Cheryl Goodrich, Peter Buettel, Trevor Burns and Gai Falla 35, with the final two balls to Trevor Jones and Debbie Sate, 34.

The Nearest-to-the-Pin trophies at the 4th and 13th holes were won by Beth Braham and Paul Griffiths. At the 6th and 15th holes it was Cheryl Goodrich and Peter Sate.

On Tuesday 21 April the Veteran Golfers were due to play a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford sponsored by Sally and John Higgins. Next Tuesday, 28 April, there will be an Individual Stroke event sponsored by Amanda Robertson.
