THE Lions Bucketts Walk (the Walk) has been a popular Gloucester attraction since it was first constructed in 1984 and it received an upgrade in 2025.
The Walk began as a community initiative, spearheaded by a small group of dedicated Gloucester Lions Club members.
According to Lions Club member Alec Bruce, the original vision was to create a local attraction that would offer a scenic spot for both exercise and relaxation, benefiting residents and visitors alike.
Following its original build, the Walk quickly gained popularity, and has remained a cherished feature of the area ever since.
“From the summit of the Walk, visitors are treated to sweeping views over the town, surrounding farmland, the fish farm, and expansive panoramic vistas,” said Alec.
The Walk is located on private land on Bucketts Rd, approximately two kilometres north of the main shopping centre.
Over time, natural erosion had caused the track along the fence line to deteriorate, with holes and small gullies appearing. The compromised safety of walkers, caused the current property owner to express concern regarding the state of the track.
In response to those concerns, the Lions Club convened several meetings and resolved to make Improvements.
With the support of a grant from the Australian Lions Foundation, the decision was made to install steps along the fence line, enhancing the safety and accessibility of the Walk.
The rejuvenation of the Walk has now been completed, and the Lions Club has expressed its appreciation for the encouragement and support that it received from the present land owners and others.
“The property owners have been instrumental throughout the project, consistently offering assistance that has been vital to overcoming challenges and advancing the development,” said Alec.
“Their support has significantly improved both the efficiency and the outcomes achieved by the project team.”
The Lions Club has also acknowledged the valuable assistance provided by Gloucester Landscapes, Bellbird Quarries, Upton Contracting and the many volunteers.
